A few weeks back there was this video that Goodman Games put out about previewing new products, and some on YouTube got really nasty about it. I don't want to bring up who or what was said, but it got negative. And the person in question was DJ Foxy, one of the GG staff.
So I posted in one of my DCC Day articles that I was cool with the dress up, the furry ears, and the cosplay. If this is how someone expresses themselves, great. I am not taking offense, and I feel it is nice to see talented people express themselves. And some in the OSR take some sort of purity test a few steps too far, and some on YouTube got nasty. I un-subbed from those channels and let it go, and turned the other cheek. And then I brought up my faith.
You have to follow the good word. We will all be judged someday, and we will be there alongside furries, trans people, and people of all faiths, cultures, and beliefs. If they are welcome in the kingdom of Heaven, then they are welcome at my game. You have to be a good person, good to others, and welcome everyone to your table. Split the bread, love thy gamer, and speak the truth. So many in the OSR lose their way and get caught up in this culture stuff, when there is only one way to go. The right way.
The one laid out in the best rule-book ever written.
So my DCC order came today, and I got a nice handwritten note in the box.
Yes, that is a nice monster-hide DCC rule-book back there, too.
So here I am planning a massive campaign using Old School Essentials, and a lot of those articles are written and still coming in the next few days, and this happens today. How can I not play DCC now?
Goodman Games is such a nice company.
Very few small businesses put this much love and care into what they do. I get the same feeling from Troll Lord Games and C&C, but this has a personal touch that just made me smile today. They earn my business and support with the little things they do. Good people work there.
No wonder Dungeon Crawl Classics is the #3 fantasy role-playing game in the world (by the GenCon standard). So many other huge companies feel like they just don't care these days. This company does.
And it just goes to show you the power of being nice to others, and living by the words of truth and love. Someday, those will come back to you, even if whoever you touched today never even knew what you did.
Faith works in mysterious ways.
